I grew up in the small town of Leek in Staffordshire attending The Marilyn Jones Dance Centre from a young age, studying Ballet, Tap and Jazz. It was within this nurturing environment that I was able to explore other aspects of performance, discovering that I had a real talent for singing! From here on I would sing at any given opportunity, joining various local operatic societies. I moved to London at 18 when I received a full scholarship to train at The Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, graduating with Honours. I then continued my training at RADA taking part in their Musical Theatre courses, studying privately with their singing coordinator, the wonderful and inspiring Jane Streeton, co-author of Singing On Stage: An Actor's Guide.
During my professional career, I have been involved in a very diverse range of work. From Shakespeare to Music Hall legend Marie Lloyd, Gothic Musical Theatre and Golden Era Musicals, with many and varied experiences between!
A life changing opportunity came when I auditioned to play Belle in 'Jekyll and Hyde', directed by Fraser Grant. This was a six month tour of Italy performing in some of the most stunning theatres I have ever seen. Not only did I have a fantastic time working on the show, but it was also a wonderful opportunity to explore a beautiful country...In six months there wasn't a corner that we didn't cover!
My main passion is for singing and I have been fortunate enough to perform in cabarets and theatre shows across London with highly skilled pianists and vocalists.
In 2009 I became a part of the theatre company at The Brick Lane Music Hall, London, taking the leading lady role in many of their shows. I have appeared on BBC's The One Show as part of their Children In Need appeal and Inside Out (presented by Matthew Wright) as part of the Brick Lane cast too. Since the start of their Autumn season in 2012 I have been involved with devising and creating the shows, having had great success with such shows as 'St George', 'Broadway', 'Divas' and 'There'll Always Be An England' throughout 2013. I remained a part of the creative team whilst also taking on the role of leading lady until I had to say a temporary farewell when I had my daughter, Ruby. I have thoroughly enjoyed appearing as a guest artist in their traditional Music Hall shows over the last couple of years as I've adapted to my new role of working mum.
2011, I began entertaining onboard The London Showboat, performing a variety of show songs as part of an evening cruise on The River Thames. This saw me through the eventful Jubilee and Olympic Games year of 2012 and continued until 2017 when I relocated back to Staffordshire in anticipation of my second baby, Charlie.
I am now enjoying a freelance career as a vocalist which fits around my family duties. I have found some really special venues around Staffordshire where I have the privilege to appear regularly.
Aside from performing, I also have a real interest in educating and coaching children within the field of performing arts. These opportunities have fortunately been frequent and under very different circumstances. I had the great privilege of being a part of The Italia Conti Associates faculty in the Barbican for four years, teaching my own classes in acting, ballet and musical theatre. I have also worked in a number of primary and secondary schools, sharing my expertise in an environment where the children have not necessarily taken part in any kind of performing arts situation before. Since moving to Staffordshire I have enjoyed lecturing on the Performing Arts course at Newcastle and Stafford college group. It doesn't matter what the environment is, I have a genuine pleasure in sharing my knowledge and advising/ coaching under the performing arts umbrella because I strongly believe these skills are transferable to every day life, and will stand an individual in good stead no matter what career path they take.
